Girl Child Education Key To National Development: UBEC Tells Northern Parents


 Given the dynamics of the fast changing world. It has become imperative for parents and stakeholders from Northern Nigeria to allow the girl child to get enough education before marrying them off.

This position was again canvassed by the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, who noted that girls' education remains very crucial to national development of any country.

Bobboyi, who stated this at the commissioning of Girl Child Community Center, Gafia village in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina state, noted that without education of the girl child, it would be difficult to change our society.

In his words; "We should allow them to finish at least secondary school education before marrying them off".

The UBEC Executive Secretary explained that he is not against marrying off girls but advised that parents should allow them to continue the search for knowledge even after marriage.

He said that UBEC is glad with the Kastina State government for its numerous policies of promoting basic education especially the girl child.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Kastina State, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu identified illiteracy and unemployment as a major threat to the society.

Yakubu said that the Kastina State government is prepared to work with UBEC to increase the number of such centers, so that the girl child in the state will have access to proper education.

He commended UBEC and Senator Saddique Yar Adua.
